A series of unfortunate events for my comp… where is the machine spirit when I need it most… arrgh.

Did have not much time to paint anything the whole of last week. Mind was just boogling with how to solve the unforunate IT events.

First, my anti virus expired, so I got the latest 2010 version. Installed it and the the machine spirit gone bonkers. The new anti virus is too intelligent that it prevent some of my programs from functioning properly. Went through techical support from the anti virus and the various program’s supports. Some conflicts here and there between the programs were causing the instability . In the end, had to revert back to the 2009 aniti virus edition and activate it with the new licence.

Next my internet connection suddenly went dead. Just my luck, which chaos could be tainting my machine spirits, and where are my Grey Knights…haha. My router was dead, sigh, moment of silent for the router who has served me 3 good years. I needed a router and a printer server, after much time spend shopping in the IT mart, managed to find a suitable model. Fixed it up, and the machine spirits is good to go. Was able to go online and do my stuff. But it lasted only for one and a half day, and got tainted by chao again, haha and cannot work anymore.

Went back to the shop and exchanged for another brand’s model. Fired it up again, took me a whole evening to set up this new model… but its working fine for 1 day and half already. So far so good, as I am writing this, may the machine spirit bless…. Meantime, let me sort out my stuffs and get back to more painting.

FOR THE EMPEROR!

Time flies when you are doing something or enjoying, time flies as well when you are doing nothing… haha.

Over the last weekend, only managed to assembled 1 more extra cadian guardman to fill in my missing squad of 10 men. I made a mistake, of having a flamer and a plama in a unit of 10. So, I removed the flamer, assembled 1 more to make 10.

For my Cadians, I still have 2 command squads, 1 x 10 squad, the fast attack Hellhound and Valkyrie, and the 3 Leman Russ to paint. I am still hesitating whether should I get the accessories sprue track guards & heavy stubber for my 3 tanks. They cost about 8 pounds each sprue, still hesitating is it worth it to get.

Anyway, below is my Imperial Guard Cadian Army list of 1750 points, plus and minus to tweak some weapons points as per mission. Any comment is appreciated, thanks!

FOR THE EMPEROR!

Was browsing a previous issue of White Dwarf, Issue 362 to be exact, saw one of the Bronze entries in the Golden Demon awards works, Julien Casses’. It’s a duel scene of a Space Marine fighting the Tyranid Carnifex. The overall feel looks very cool and detailed. I can imagine the atmosphere and tension in facing the enemy.

Anyway, I did recall I came upon the site where Julien showcase his step by step on how he curated his wonderful masterpiece. Check it out! Its amazingly cool and detailed, just like his masterpiece. Cool Julien…. FOR THE EMPEROR!

So much for the wolves fever, back to more miniatures. Feels like in a magical mood, thought I need a Necromancer. Thinking of whether should I get one Necromancer from the Vampire Count range. Looking at the shelves of  miniatures I have in The Painting Shop, think I could use the Empire Battle Wizards box set and assembled one of the Wizard to represent the Necromancer.

Necromancer
Assemble it up, added a rock slab of skeleton from the Citadel Basing Kit. Now, let me think about the colour and style for my Necromancer…. stay tuned…

After finishing my Vampire Count Dire Wolves, it sure left me in a very wolfy mood…haha. It did struck me with the thought of maybe I should start collecting Warhammer 40k Space Wolves, haha.

Inspired a little, went to my painting shop and ramble through my previous issues of White Dwarf where the new Space Wolves were released.Hmm, sure the space wolves looks cool… (probably got the wolves spirit infected into me already…haha). Looking at the Troops choice of Space Wolves Pack of 10 marines, one of them has a helmet shaped like a wolf. I was thinking if only I can field my troops of Space Wolves marines with all these helmets instead of the usual Space Marines helmet, wow, they will sure look very cool. Guess there’s probably only one wolf helmet in the box of 10 Space wolves marines.

This remind me of quite a few yrs back when they had the Space Wolves 13th Company for the Eye of Terror. At that time, I was also tempted to start Space Wolves as well, I got all attracted to the Wulfens. But I never started anyway…haha. Same feeling now, maybe I will hang around and see the rest of the Chapters’  release, knowing the future for my Inquisitions sounds bleak… For the Emperor!

Finally got my wolves all done. Did my research on wolves, found out that usually in the forest wolves, they have a brown sort of top coat and usually white bleach color on the underside. To make the wolf feels more errie, I gave them red eyes with black eyeball.

Here’s how I how got my Dire Wolf painted…

1. Base coat the wolf black. When dried, coat the wolf with Fortress Grey. When dried, wash the whole wolf with Badab Black heavily.

2. Dry brush the legs and underside of the body with Bleached Bone.

3. Dry brush highlight the high areas with Skull White.

4. Dry brush the top side of the wolf with Graveyard Earth

5. Mix Graveyard Earth with Skull White 1:1, dry brush the top side high area of the wolf.

6. Dry brush the high areas of the top side with Skull White.

7. Wash the grooves and deep areas of the body with Devlan Mud

8. Finish off eyes with Red Gore, blend slightly with Red Gore & Skull white, and Chaos Black for the eye ball. Next, skull white for the teeth and mix of Red Gore and Skull white for the gums.

9. Wash a thin layer of gloss over the eye, teeths, nose  and mouth area to give a wet look effect.

10. Spread the base with white glue.

11. Base the base with sand.

12. When sand is dried, coat the sand with Scorched Brown

13. Dry brush the sand, with first, Snakebite Leather, followed by Skull White. Coat the edge of the base with Foundation Khemri Brown, and its DONE!! Howl!!!!

Vampire Count Dire Wolf

Finally finally, over the weekend and past days, managed to complete my 6 wolves finally. That will leave me with a total of 2 units of 6 Dire Wolves…. HOWL!

Vampire Count Dire Wolves

The Doom Wolf is the one with the rock in the center of the unit. I had a post earlier about how I converted the Doom Wolf to a higher leaping angle. Added a piece of rock slab from the Citadel Basing Kit, so it looks as like it leaping over the rock slab for a fast attack!

My final 12 Dire Wolves all ready for an attack! HOWL!!!!
